Vermont Academy (and VA) is an American co-educational boarding / day school and college preparatory school for grades nine to twelve and offers the following acceptance for students who have a post-graduate year. Founded in 1876, it is in Saxtons River, Vermont. The school is coeducational, and college preparatory, with a 515-acre Campus. There are 228 students from 30 states and 12 countries (46 international students – 20%).
History
The school was founded in 1876. [Citation needed]
In 1934, with the school on the edge of bankruptcy staggers, recommended Dartmouth College President Ernest Martin Hopkins, a fellow Dartmouth graduate for the post of Director of Vermont Academy. Laurence G. Leavitt was director for 25 years, during which time he doubled enrollment, the school moved debt and made many improvements to the school campus.
