Salida-Trip Off the Pass

Nestled in the southwest corner of the beautiful state of Colorado is a wonderful gem – a town of Salida. He was one of the largest historic districts have been determined in the state. Founded in the late 1800s on the development of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, a proof of Salida is today the dreams, grit, and determination of men and women who built it.Downtown Salida history began with the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad.Salida was once the Division point on General William Jackson Palmer's direction Leadville. flourished in the 1880s, the small town on the D & RG main line to the West.

But Great Fire of significant sections of the city in 1886 destroyed and 1888.There are 78 historic buildings 1888-1905, that tour and learn the beginnings of Turn of the century architecture – medieval character. There glassworks, precious stone factories, ceramic, wood, leather, metal and crafts abound – too. There is something for everyone.There is much to see and visit in the Pikes Peak region.
