How do I use a pottery kit?
I bought a pottery kit, and I cannot understand the instructions. He says that the sound should be moist, but It is hard as a brick. Do I have it under some water or something to run. He says so their fold up, and then wedge but it's hard, and it is still like a brick. Can someone give me some helpful tips on how to do it? Please help.
Hi, I'm a potter, I hope I can help. If the sound is hard, but still moist try dropping onto a hard concrete surface a few times. This helps to keep it soft and starts the wedging (kneading) process. If it is too hard yet (ie you can not they squeeze between thumb and index finger) put a few holes in it with a knitting needle or the end of a paintbrush and pour a little water over it and into the holes. Let For about a week sealed in a plastic bag. The water will help to soften them. If its dry and hard as stone You might need more water Add and wait a bit longer. If it is soft, you need to distribute it evenly to wedge the moisture in the clay and get out the air bubbles. It's like kneading dough, but try not to get air pockets, as you are to fold over the sound. Another method is to use the wire cutter cut and wedging the sound in half. Throw half on a hard surface and then take the other half is hard on the head. Repeat this 20 times more sound cutting through both layers and to make stacking more layers of pastry (like). If you buy pottery clay from a shop, it provides should be ready to wedge. How to wedge clay, it is a bit softer, but it will dry out even if handled a lot to do and to crack, so to begin about a pound of clay at a time with. I wedge my clay on a sheet of MDF. He holds it sticks to the table. You need a slightly pourous surface wedge. Concrete is also great for pinch
. Hope this helps
